The achievements of dozens of mentors and mentees who have taken part in this year's Beyond Barriers programme were celebrated at Kingston University's award-winning Town House building. The event, opened by Provost Professor Helen Laville, saw students, staff and industry experts who've been involved in the scheme share their experiences of working with each other, as well as the awarding of the prestigious mentor and mentee of the year awards.

A fascinating exploration of the ways in which machine learning, algorithms and artificial intelligence are transforming modern-day society has been selected as the ninth annual Big Read title by 麻豆色情片. Hello World! How to Be Human in the Age of the Machine, a non-fiction title by best-selling author, maths professor and television presenter Hannah Fry, is this year's chosen title, selected by a panel from a shortlist of six. A special-edition copy of the book, published by Transworld, will be sent out to all first-year students ahead of the next academic year, with further copies made available for staff and students from other years.

Ukrainian academics have been sharing first-hand experiences of the impacts of the ongoing war and their role as disaster management specialists with staff and students at Kingston University. Their recent visit was part of a long-standing relationship between Kingston and the Lviv State University of Life Safety, a leading higher education institution in the field of human safety. Staff and student exchanges between the two universities have been taking place since 2016.
